‘MEDISTITCH
February 5, 2017 by Do
Whether you are studying for a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, midwife, nurse or medical assistant, there will come a day that you need to stitch. During my co-ups I often had the need to practice it at home. For example, I forget my first time that I could never stitch on a patient for the first time.
Fortunately, it all came out, with the surgeon’s instructions. But as an intern you also want to know if you can do it all alone and independently. And practice makes perfect. During your co-adhes, there is not always the same amount of time and space to practice and master the stitches. And that’s why I get to raffle an over-complete suture set among my readers who share this post.
I tested it last week. The ones who follow me on instagram and Snapchat have seen how very happy I am. And I can’t wait to make one of you happy.
With the MediStitch suture set you have the possibility to turn it in all directions and practice the difficult to get or to reach wounds better. Something I would have liked to practice beforehand before I had almost knocked out a surgeon by banging my elbow in his face, while attaching a somewhat difficult to achieve wound.
What I also love about the MediStitch stitches, is that you can practice intracutaneous adhesion techniques. Just that’s what I needed during my co-in surgery. Something you can’t practice on a bicycle tire, orange or the regular suture pads.
I also got a suction cup with ring and rope, on which I could easily practice surgical buttons manually! I even glued it in the car against the window, in case I had nothing to do in the traffic and wanted to practice. Keep an eye on the road, if you want to do this.
Briefly about MediStitch:
MediStitch is an initiative of medical students of the KULeuven, who will master medical students, early interns, medical assistants and anyone who wants to care for stitching. In addition to adhesion gear, they also offer videos, where they show you the close-up techniques in a clear way.
Practice makes perfect, so you or do you know an intern, doctor’s assistant, nurse, surgeon in training, general practitioner in training, dentists, or anyone who can use a suture set, share this message. Don’t forget to put it on public, otherwise I can’t see who shares it.
